Re: A Workflow for customizing Pages with Dreamweaver - 2005/11/11 00:19
What I do is I build a basic template of what I want my site to look like. I use a temporary image shaped like the navbar and category tree as placeholders. I make the metatag area, navbar, category tree, and body sections editable areas (a feature of Dreamweaver). I then save it as a template (.dwt).
Next I open each of my Merchant 5 screens. I grab the pieces I want to use of each screen and I drop them into my template, I adjust the meta tags and titles, and I save them as a page such as CTGY.html and PROD.html depending on the screen I am working on. Once I am done with all 28 screens I go drop them into MIVA Merchant. This also allows me to Dreamweavers template system to update all 28 pages if I have a general change to make later. Like throwing in a credit card logo or adding a color or text change.
Once I am done with that I have all the basic layout complete. Of course the tricky stuff is still yet to be done so I go back to my PROD, CTGY and various customer screens to do some adjusting. I then apply my stylesheet classes and tweeks to the body area functions to that it lays out just the way I want it. Like stacking the affiliate information instead of having it side by side. Because contrary to Miva's belief everyone doesn't have a 1280 screen resolution.
Using this as my common workflow seems to provide the most organized process for developing and even changing those 28 never ending screens.
Hope that helps and thanks for posting such a good topic.
