Because if you use OpenUI to modify Miva Merchant, you will not have to enter all your hard earned modifications again when Miva Corp. upgrades Miva Merchant. Just upgrade Miva Merchant, upgrade the OpenUI, upgrade your 3rd party modules, and you are ready to go!

The OpenUI also gives your store many times more flexibility then the standard MMUI, even if you don't use 3rd party modules. Just a small list of the UI enhancements you'll gain with the OpenUI include:
